CRZ Notification
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the provisions of section 3 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, with a view to conserve and protect the environment of coastal stretches and marine areas, besides livelihood security to the fisher communities and other local communities in the coastal areas and to promote sustainable development based on scientific principles taking into account the dangers of natural hazards, sea level rise due to global warming, vide Notification 2011/2019 declares the coastal stretches of the Country and the water area up to its territorial water limit, as Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
To regulate the permissible activities located in the CRZ, prior CRZ clearance under the provisions of CRZ Notification 2011/2019 is mandatory for the development activities falling within the CRZ area and approval is granted by the State Coastal Zone Management Authority (SCZMA) or SEIAA / Ministry on the recommendation of the SCZMA, as the case may be.
